The India Heritage Center hosted its Spring Spotlight Event on May 19th, 2017 at the Sheraton Mahwah in Mahwah, NJ. This sold out culinary gala featured a multiple-course, gourmet, sit-down dinner with exclusive specialties from top Indian Michelin starred restaurants prepared by each of the four celebrity chefs.
The evening opened with exotic cocktail preparations by award winning mixologist, Hemant Pathak and intoxicating liqueurs by Somrus. The event’s Emcee, Kunal Lamba, celebrity food personality and host of Star Plus’s reality cooking show, Kawan Kitchenmate, began the program with French Certified Maître Du Vin Du Bordeaux, Ash Rajan, who curated carefully selected wines to delectable appetizers by Moghul Caterers of Arora Hospitality Group. Chef Hemant Mathur of Haldi, Chote Nawab and others, delighted attendees with his Avocado Jhalmoori and Fish Polichattu. Chef Chintan Pandya of Junoon tantalized the guests with his Kadak Seekh and Quinoa Salad. Patra Khumb, Jackfruit Biryani and Kalakand Chees Burfi were elegantly served by Chef Eric McCarthy of Tulsi and Chef Floyd Cardoz of Paowalla finished off with a delicate preparation of Vanilla Bean Kulfi. Chef Rajesh Thakur of Mantra Restaurant prepared a full course of the most popular and varied Northern Indian dishes. To further enhance this culinary extravaganza, Madhur Jaffrey, highly acclaimed and award winning actress in Hollywood, Bollywood and live theater, writer, cookbook author, TV chef and illustrator captivated the audience with a glimpse into her remarkable life. The India Heritage Center Board Members were honored with an Award of Excellence presented by Zee TV and &TV. Last but not least, to satisfy the sweet tooth in all, Kalindi and Priyam Bakshi of Phirki and Saatvika enchanted guests with fanciful desserts and Ankit Narula, the “Paanwaala”, outdid himself on product and presentation with his unique assortment of paans.
With all of the above offered within an ornate and intimate setting, beautifully decorated by Rangoli, it is no wonder that a repeat of the signature Spring Spotlight Event is so often requested.
